Bluestack attends the AWS Delhi Summit.
On the 12th of May, 2017, we had the opportunity to attend the Delhi version of the AWS Summit. The event celebrated the first anniversary of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in India. Werner Vogels, the Chief Technology Officer at Amazon.com was dressed up in an elegant green shalwar-kameez, the traditional Indian wear for the occasion. In his keynote speech, he walked us through the various initiatives AWS was currently involved in including Chime, CodeStar, Lambda, Aurora, Redshift, Alex, Rekognition and Polly. He was excited to announce that AWS was the fastest growing multi-billion dollar enterprise IT company in the world with $14 Bn annual run rate and 43% growth. Some of their customers include Samsung, Barclays, AoL, Unilever, Airbnb, Lyft, Stripe, Vodafone, Netflix, McDonald’s, Yelp, Slack, Ask.fm, Prezi and Warby Parker. Even the Middle East’s largest ride-hailing app, Careem uses AWS for its operations.
After the keynote, the event was split into three venues based on the nature of your interests. We attended the Transform on Cloud track where experts in the industry spoke about the future of enterprise IT and transitioning to the next generation hybrid cloud operating model. There were a lot of case studies from CTOs of leading Indian brands who explained how moving to the cloud has changed the pace of their business.
The event was hosted in JW Marriott Hotel in the Aerocity, right next to the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. We had the chance to catch up with the APAC team who were conspicuously silent about their activities in Dubai. Rumour had it that one senior executive from Mumbai has been dispatched to the emirate to work on an undisclosed project. Bring it on AWS, we’re waiting!
